Plastic ants in rice, children estimate number of ants in an area, find and then count.

Esitmation jar - add plastic ants each day for children to estimate and then count number of ants

Ants in a nest - muffin tin with raisins in each cup - children must match number of plastic ants to each cup of raisins (no eating of raisins :))

Ants on a log - celery, cheez whiz or peanut butter with raisins on top

Ants in your pants - feet - grapes, pants - chunks of banana, body - peanut butter, ants - raisins sprinkled on top

Ant Life Cycle - cut and paste pictures of ant life cycle in correct order

Build an ant hill - supplies - mainlla tag, brown const. paper, pine/fir needles, dirt, plastic ants & rice(larvae)

Glue domed brown paper onto tag base, glue needles & dirt on brown paper, glue ants & rice on exterior of ant hill. (We said there was an emergency evacuation as to why they would be outside the hill)

Design your own ant -black construction paper for ant body, we did a  directed draw of ant. Children add clothing with crepe paper, wallpaper, ribbon etc. and put on class mural of Ant Colony.

Movement activities - to THE ANTS GO MARCHING

Ant Game - Ant hill is safe spot, Special Helper is Queen, others that need to be "caught" are the different types of ants - guard, nursery, foreger, etc.
